Senate To Debate Cyber Bills in Early 2012

Multiple Agencies Announce or Seek By-Out Authority
The Air Force announced this week that it plans to cut 4,500 more workers from its civilian workforce as the service anticipates deep cuts in funding. In addition, the Department of Agriculture announced that it may seek buy out authority as it moves to close dozens of offices. Ironically, technological developments made those closures possible. The General Services Administration also announced that it was seeking buy-out authority for up to 10% of its workforce. These cuts are just the latest in a string of announcements that point to a smaller federal workforce. For contractors, it means potentially fewer people to serve, but also - as was the case with the USDA - an chance to provide innovative solutions to help agencies meet goals they were seeking to achieve anyway.

GSA seeks proof of systems security from vendors
The General Services Administration wants more proof its vendors are securing the agency's systems — and GSA is not just stopping at the prime contractor level. GSA issued a final rule today requiring both prime and subcontractors to submit an IT security plan detailing how they are meeting federal cyber laws and regulations.
