This course is designed to provide a baseline level of knowledge which will facilitate a Cisco Account Manager when discussing security solutions with their customer. The course is designed to take AMs with little security knowledge to a stage where they feel comfortable with exactly what the current security climate is, the roles and functions of Cisco security solutions and finally, how to position these solutions for a small to medium size business.

Divided into 4 sections, the topics covered will include:

 

Section 1: Understanding the Risk - Today’s Security Climate

  • The Cybercrime business model - from the script kiddie to organized crime syndicates.
  • Cyber security and the Credit Crunch.
  • Cause and effect - what a security breach means to the SMB.
  • Case Studies and information sources.
  • Cisco Borderless Networks, Cisco Validated Designs for security

 

Section 2: Assessing the Threats - What Are We Protecting Against?

  • Understanding the current security climate and how to keep yourself up to date.
  • Typical attack mechanisms including delivery.
  • Malware - viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware etc.
  • Botnets - principles of operation, current examples eg Conficker, spam, DDoS.
  • Information Harvesting - social engineering, packet sniffing, data leakage.
  • Hacking - general principles with examples of hacking tools in use.
  • Fraud - phishing, pharming, identity theft.
  • Physical security
  • Future trends for 2010.

 

Section 3: Building the Defences

  • The Security Policy and its importance for the SMB.
  • Defence in Depth - layering security for an architectural approach to protection, Cisco SDN 3.0.
  • Generic Security Platforms - firewalls, IPS, admission control, identity based networking etc.
  • Cisco Specifics for the SMB.
  • Positioning Cisco security solutions.

 

Section 4: Security Opportunity Discovery

  • Key security concerns for decision makers within the organization.
  • Compliance - ISO 27002, PCI-DSS.
  • Exercise - identifying the opportunity.
  • Information gathering - asking the right questions.
  • Dealing with objections.
